I want to see what's in my employment file. Do I have the legal right to ask to see it and "appeal" things that I do not feel should be in there?
Can I legally ask to see my employment file?
Yes, you do. Be prepared to answer why, and to speak to an HR Manager. It would probably be a better idea to speak to HR about the issue that is surounding this request first and than follow-up with asking to see your file. For instance, are you concerned there is a corrective note in there that you are not aware? Speaking to HR first with what is concerning you is the way to go first, vs. just asking for your file. GOOD LUCK to you.
Reply:You can ask and they can just as legally refuse. Just because you are in it, doesn't mean you own it.
It is still corporate property and they decide how it will be used. Anyway, good luck.
Reply:You can see your file. As far as what is in there and whether or not you can appeal it...that might be a company issue.
Reply:Absolutely! It is YOUR employment file and have legal right to your file.
