Does anyone know of any employment for a 59 year old male?

I am looking for employment of any kind, anywhere in the world.

I have experience in engineering design in the nuclear and petrochemical fields, drafting, project management, planning, wedding car driving, hypnotherapy, sales, looking after people with epilepsy, problem solving, diy.

the more unusual and challenging the job the better.

Does anyone know of any employment for a 59 year old male?

How far back should I go with my employment on my resume?

I graduated in college in 1997, and started at my current place of employment in 1998. I've gone from the bottom rung to as high as I can get in those eight years, and I know I managed to portray it well so far on my resume. But now I'm kind of stuck: I only have ONE job listed. Should I include the administrative temp work I did in my year between college and career? The two part time jobs I had before I was full time at my current job? Retail in college?! I like that I can show I've had dedication and the ability to grow into a position, but I think having only one place of employment also kind of makes me look... not very well rounded. Or do the three positions I've worked to get to my current position count as other "jobs"?

How far back should I go with my employment on my resume?
They do count as "other jobs". I would include the job you did in college, and the transitional job after college, it will show your drive, hard work, and enthusiasm. Try to show a continual employment record from your job in college. If the others are related to the job you are applying for, list that too.

Mike :)

Reply:Resumes are not one size fits all... your experience to date really depends on what job you are applying for. In some cases, your previous experience temping or in college may be relevant to your new job. So, keep it on your resume if you think it shows some other aspect of your work.

In some fields, you are REQUIRED to list all of your experience (like teaching)... the safest thing is to keep all your work history on file.
Reply:I would list them. Continuous employment and all. Plus, spin that into your cover letter. Tie them all together. Maybe it's customer service, or computer stuff, or working well as a team, blah blah blah.
Reply:I've been told that as a rule of thumb you should include 5 years back from current....BUT you can throw in any jobs before the 5 years that are most important to the job you are applying for. And yes I would say include the admin work you did...even if it was temp it shows that you were flexible to work under those conditions AND you have office experience that is always a plus,.
Reply:I would say one employer is great. To lengthen your resume you may want to break down the 1 job into multiple positions you held with individual time-frames (sub jobs...not summarized all in one). Remember to keep your resume to one page.

Good luck!
Reply:If the job position related to the position that you are trying to get, I would list them. I work my first in 1993 and I list it on my resume because it relates to the position that I am applying to. I would list them. Good Luck!
Reply:I would break out each individual position as a job. Each position had a focus and you should show the skills developed under each position. If you have "other" jobs, you might just put the skills that you have learned as part of the other skills/experince. The biggest thing for potential employers is to hook them in within the first third of the page. If they don't see anything they are looking for, then they won't read any further. In the past, they wanted everything within two pages. Trend is moving towards a one page resume.
Reply:So you've only had one job since graduating from college, yet you seem to have made the most of it. List your last position first, with dates and responsibilities, and continue until you have listed all the positions held in the company over the last eight (8) years. If you so desire, you can add the college years' jobs. However, in my opinion, they are only relevant to show that you had initiative and drive in college and that it apparently carried over into the first job, and perhaps beyond.

XYZ Company 1998 - Present

2006: Director, Human Resources - Responsibilities included .

2003- 2006: Manager, Human Resources - Responsibilities included

1998 - 2003: Personnel Assistant - Responsibilities included

Prior to XYZ Corp., I held several jobs while at college:

* Assistant to the Intramural Director (Senior year)

* JC Penny's - Cashier/Stock Clerk (Junior year)

* Burlington Coat Factory - Stock Clerk (Sophomore year)

* Jack Nicholas Country Club - Caddie (Freshman year)
Reply:Put it all on there. Show your best!
Reply:i would include everything. the more you show you've done can only make you look better. (unless you have 50 jobs in 3 months. that doesn't look good) i like to keep a running resume that i just add to as i gain more experience etc...

No employment history in my credit report?

I am a college student working on campus. I file my taxes every year. But my credit report contains no information about my employment history. Does anyone know why that is? How can I make my employment history to appear on my credit report?

No employment history in my credit report?
Do u have ur pay stubs, if not u should be able to get a computer print out from where u work for ur proof. Also do u deposit ur pay in a bank account another way to get ur records. U can request ur employer show where u work on ur report but really ,u could request ur income be reported, the above options should work, as well as ur tax info. GOOD LUCK HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Reply:Contact the credit reporting agency and ask to add the information to your file. They'll tell you what to do and how.

Credit reporting agencies use such personal information mainly for identification purposes. The last time that I checked my credit report, Experian had me listed as working for an employer that I left in 1997.
Reply:My report doesn't either. It's not a tax form or a resume so there shouldn't be anything there on employement.

How can I find employment in Australia as an American?

I am about to graduate from an American university in May and I want to find employment in Australia, what is the best way to do so?

How can I find employment in Australia as an American?
seek.com.au - lots of jobs, but not much for new graduates. Try to get some working experience first.
Reply:Hi, i think it is easy to find work in Australia. You only need a work permit/visa. If you want to find a job before arriving you would need to visit websites that offer employment services in which ever state you would like to visit. Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Queensland, Tasmania, Northern Territory, and our beloved Canberra (office administer work)

Our states are not short drives like in America. We have inner and outer suburbs which can take as long to reach as some of your states do to cross.

If your not fussy about employment, and look neat and tidy in appearance and you speak clearly, you will find employment in Australia.

Half our population are immigrants which still can not speak English nor can be 100% understood. If they can work then why couldn't you!

I hope you enjoy your time in Australia when you get here. We are a very tolerant and friendly nation of people from very diverse backgrounds. Mostly we get along really well with strangers and if you like a beer, a burger or meat pie with tomato sauce you will fit in. Only joking, we have some of the best restaurants in the world and the added bonus of culture through Art, music, theatre, and all sports.
Reply:Why do you want to be an American?
Reply:What kind of work are you looking for. Australia is very choosy about who works there. You need to have a skill that is lacking there, such as computer skills.

The best thing to do is to search the internet for Australian based companies that you are interested in working in and send them a CV. You may get a telephone interview if they are interested.

You can always get work as bar staff, if thats what you want. Or, start as bar staff and look for work while you're there.

It won't be easy.

Does anyone feel a person can look TOO hard for employment?

I have been unemployed for four months despite being signed up with 17 agencies, more than 15 employment websites and having sent out hundreds of resumes I am still stuck in a job market glutted with white collar workers. (I have several degrees and much experience, great references and much more) -- If I relax (LOL) will a job show up? Just a thought.

Does anyone feel a person can look TOO hard for employment?
Yes, give me another beer.
Reply:Go to places where they hire people with your skills, Talk to them personally , Agency's may work but in a lot of cases your just another faceless resume among many and may be far down a list to boot.
Reply:No.

where are you based!!

Are you over estimating your value in the market?

What are your salary expectations?
Reply:Oh, I am right there with you!
Reply:Yes, in fact, your resume might be circulating TOO much, ...those websites are often visited by the agencies, and they see your name over and over... I'd relax, and the outgoing yin will be replaced by incoming yang!

Do you think self employment is the road to riches?

Is it more realistic to attain financial freedom being a business owner as opposed to regular employment?, even if you have a well paying job.

Do you think self employment is the road to riches?
self-employment is the only way to get rich, unless you climb the corporate ladder to CEO after about 50 years....some people do get lucky...

if you end up being an employee making ALOT of money and it makes you rich, just remember your boss always going to be richer than you
Reply:I have no knowledge of that - it is just my only hope right now.
Reply:no
Reply:I am self-employed, and I make very good money, but I work A LOT. I believe its much better than a regular job. BUT now, I am developing a different kind of income with a young opportunity presented to me, and timing is everything, b/c I do want my time back. I wish you the best. http://www.onlydream.biz
Reply:You are more likely to become wealthy from owning your own business than you are by regular employment. Unfortunately, you are also more likely to go bankrupt. How can you avoid the downfall? Pick a business you are good at, research the need for such a business, differentiate yourself from others in the business, and always be aware of what your market is doing.
Reply:If you have the right business and clientele. Remember a sole proprietorship's success, or failure depends solely on your ability to generate business.
Reply:It is the road to self riches for sure. but this road has a lot of bumps. But a rose comes with thorns and the one who can remove the thorns effectively and enjoy the sweet smell of the rose.

Okay now i know i m bad at giving examples but self employment is the best way to get rich.

I can give u a few examples.

Reply:I do think so. But I believe that you should get educated first, then work for a company that teaches you the principles that you can't learn in school, then start development your ideas for you own business, start the new business while you are still working, then when your business is strong enough and more importantly you have enough money to start, do it. Then you just need to plan, be creative and wise.
Reply:Yes. Its nearly impossible to become excessively wealthy working any kind of job.
Reply:Absolutely. Be careful though to avoid the allure of pyramid schemes like MLMs that call you a "business owner" when really you are just a small piece at the bottom of the pyramid. Opening a real business can be one of the most difficult yet rewarding things you can do.
Reply:it's difficult to make money when your self-employed.
Reply:Absolutely, 100% yes. Owning a small business is merely a vehicle to help you increase your net worth. MLM included. Do you know of any regular jobs that pay upwards of $60,000/mo? I certainly don't. But I do know many home business owners who earn that and more. Because the income is residual, your net worth increases very rapidly. You are paid in direct proportion to the amount of work you do, unlike any well paying job. This gives you the finances, time and freedom to pursue other investments.

People talk about the risk, I believe there is no risk. I invested under $200 to start my own business, which was a risk I was more than willing to take. If I lost it, I lost it. I started earning an income my 2nd day because I believed in the product and was able to convey that belief to a lot of other people. As a result, we are all earning a very nice income.
Reply:I guess it just depends on the type of self-employment you pursue. You can make good money through both types. If you are interested in earning extra cash every month, go to my profile, and check out my blog. There are great ways to earn money online!

Why is it important to have Term and condition of employment and laws that manage the workplace for employees?

Explain why it is important to have terms and conditions of employment and laws that manage the workplace for employers and employees.

Please help thanks please was'nt not in school thanks

Why is it important to have Term and condition of employment and laws that manage the workplace for employees?
My ancestors were mostly coal miners. They went down the pit before dawn and came up after sunset. They worked in hot humid dangerous conditions that sometimes took their lives. They were expected to work for very little and to work when the boss said so. That has all changed through laws being passed.

I have a colleague who works in reprographics and she was working in a room that had no direct light and no ventilation. We used the Health and Safety laws to get her an extractor, a partition and a window that at least gives her secondary light.

So her working conditions have been vastly improved.
Reply:to aid in the prevention of abuses in the workplace, by employer/employee, to have an open reference readily available, clearly and simply stating the rules of conduct, applicable laws etc the names of the regulating authority and contact details for questions/complaints/resolution/investig... these posters are required by federal law in every wokplace, and are to be displayed in an "open and notorious manner" in the "employee common area"

How much are self-employment FICA tax rates?

I understand that commissions, if not included in W-2 income, will be taxed normal income tax plus FICA self-employment taxes. Let's say I make $45,000 in regular W-2 salary and an additional $30,000 in commissions (for which the employer doesn't pay any FICA) - how much would I owe in taxes??

How much are self-employment FICA tax rates?
FICA refers to w-2 employment payments made to the Treasury by an employer paying both the employer and employee withholding.

Self employment is reported on a 1099 misc. The amount of tax due is based on the schedule C self employment earnings report where the earnings are matched to business deductions such as mileage and other expenses providing the net earnings.

The net earnings are attached to a schedule SE for self employment tax. Net earnings multiplied by .09235 multiplied X 15.3% on net earnings up to and including $87,900. Medicare tax of 2.9 % of net SE income applies with no limit on which the medicare is applied.
Reply:The above answer is mostly correct with exceptions to the limits.

For 2005 the social security tax base was $90,000 (not $87.900)

For 2005 the base is $94,200

These amounts are indexed for inflation and change each year.

Can a displaced homemaker qualify for mortgage with no employment or alimony yet?

My divorce will be final in Sept. At that time the court will provide the court ordered alimon and chil support order which should begin Oct.1 - In order to qualify for a loan - one banker said that you must be able to show having received alimony for one year or 2 years of employment - can't show either - I am renting the house I want to buy and would like to apply for a mortgage - can I qualify

Can a displaced homemaker qualify for mortgage with no employment or alimony yet?
You would be more "risky" so you could get a mortgage but the interest rate would be 8.75%. If you wait until all your affairs are in order, the interest rate would be 6.75% if your credit is good; 7.5% if it isn't . Start shopping. .
Reply:I highly doubt you could get a mortgage without a co-signer.

How would you make the payments?
Reply:Nope...you sure can't.

Unfortunately, women that are homemakers run into this problem alot when they divorce.

I would also highly, highly caution you on getting a loan of ANY type using your child support or alimony as income to qualify for it...while legally, lenders allow for it, if your husband loses his job, you can scream to the courts, "I want my money" all you want, but if he doesn't have a job, it won't get a check deposited into your account.

I have seen it too many times to count.

What kind of employment will i get with a degree in Biomolecular Structure Studies..?

what kind of employment would i be able to get from this type of degree? what would the job titles be?

What kind of employment will i get with a degree in Biomolecular Structure Studies..?
There are an extremely wide variety of jobs you can get with this degree. I do research in this particular field, and I am fully aware that there are SO many jobs out there for people with this expertise. If you get a B.A. or B.S. in this field and go into academic research, your job title is likely to be something like "Research Assistant" or "Associate Researcher." The starting pay for someone right out of college is likely to be about $60,000 per year if you work for a biotech company, or about $40,000 per year if you work in an academic lab. However, your job options aren't limited to this.

How do I check my own employment background history accurately?

Normally all employers do employment background check of prospective employees. How do I check my own employment background history accurately so that I can find any errors and misleading information before I submit it to employer?

How do I check my own employment background history accurately?
You can call your previous employers to see if they have what you need. Most employers are only verifying that you worked there, and for the time you said you did.

The site I'm including may be helpful as well.
Reply:check with the credit bureaus

then try to remember

also social security has a record

mostly if you don't know it, nobody else will either
Reply:They cost money here is what is included in a background check and what is not included click this link;http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs16-bck...
Reply:as a manager of h.r. for years and answering those previous employment questions...the rules and guidelines now are that you can only confirm if the person was employed at a certain place, from what dates and was the departure of the employee for the same reasons as stated,,,,,,,,,you can not say if they were good, bad or indifferent, you can only say they left voluntarily or unvoluntarily...so don't sweat it....they can't say much.
Reply:I think you're mixing things up a bit. Employment History is simply a listing of your prior jobs, provided by you to your prospective employer. There is no data base for that.

Backround checks are where they run your information through the legal databases to see if you've ever been convicted of a crime or something.

Most law enforcement agencies have online databases you can check. If not, go down in person and ask to see your file, if you even have one.
Reply:Contact the Social Security office in your city. They can generate a list of all employment from your first job to present.
Reply:thats a good question.

Can a potential employer do an employment verification if the employee's previous company is out of business?

I resigned from my previous employer because I did not enjoy working with the catty people in my department. However, the company has recently gone out of business. Is there anyway a potential employer can conduct an employment verification for this company since it is no longer operating? Can they still find out my dates of employment and reason for leaving? And if so, how??

Can a potential employer do an employment verification if the employee's previous company is out of business?
Most companies subscribe to a service which provides basic background checks. The background check will show change of residence and employment as reported to the IRS and state tax authorities.

Although they can no longer contact people involved with your employment, they can verify where you worked, when and for how long.
Reply:It depends. When I interview people for positions, I ask for a contact person from past jobs. Depending on your potential employer, they can track down a contact person, or research the defunct business.

It's better to come clean at the interview. Let them know the dates, and say that you left because you were looking for a more challenging/better paying position. Don't insult the past employer. It will make you appear difficult to work with.
Reply:Sure, they can try. will they be able to track down an ex-supervisor? Who knows.

How can I account for the gaps in my employment history.?

I've worked a lot of temp jobs and have a lot of gaps in my employment history. How do I put this in my resume, and how do i explain this if I ever get an interview?

How can I account for the gaps in my employment history.?
Here is your final answer: Don't explain the gaps!

If you were a temporary or contracted worker, worked through an agency or multiple agencies that was your full time position.

Your resume should reflect that you were a contracted employee with ABC agency, from whatever time periods were involved. If you changed agencies or worked for multiple agencies it would still be the same description, you worked as a contracted employee.

If you perform different job functions, don't tie the job description to the agency or period. Show the contracted work as time only and give explanation of your skills in another area of the resume.

It's hit and miss with a lot of employers but I would shore up your references. Make sure they know you are using them and will give you a decent reference.

Good Luck!
Reply:either say that you went to visit your uncle abroad, or own up and say you were a guest of the government prison service
Reply:You know, a little white lie every now and then is not going to hurt here are some things you could say:

I was pregnant and had a miscarriage

I was taking care of my sick grandmother who lives far away

I was attending school

I was hurt for a period of time

These people are not detectives and they cannot get any information unless you write a written consent.
Reply:Put a positive spin on the temp jobs, on how they exposed you to a variety of work conditions, and how you had to come in and immediately be productive.

If you get an interview, be completely honest about it and focus on the benefits you bring to the job.
Reply:i have had to deal with that problem, what i do is say that i was in another state or i was in school.it work only if you have like three gaps or less.the best way is to sat you were volunteering or babysitting...
Reply:You don't need to put it on your resume, but if they ask tell the truth. Many companies now a days do a 10 year background check and if you lie they will find out. There is nothing wrong with having a lot of temp jobs...if anything it gives you a good amount of diverse experience.
Reply:Easy ... it's called unemployment! No seriously, during an interview, if the question was ever asked, you could simply say that you didn't need full time employment at that time, so you accepted the temp jobs, knowing that they were temporary and would end in time. There shouldn't be a problem with that.
Reply:sorry honey i dont know!!
Reply:Mention all your experience in your resume and don't worry about the gaps until you hit the interview. When you get there, be honest and forthwright. Excuses sound like excuses; even when they're good ones. An employer would much rather hire someone whose integrity is apparent over someone too slick and ready to explain away everything. Anyway, broad experience is never a bad thing. Good luck.
Reply:I have a few ideas
Reply:If you have a job that ended in January and another job that started in February, list the jobs by start and end month rather than day.

Also, since you worked in temp jobs, tell the potential employer that you had a number of short term assignments but you stayed until the projects were completed.

Remind the employer that the recession made it difficult to find work.

Take care,

Troy
Reply:I had the same problem. Explain how you were unsure of the career path that you would like to take, so you went through the temp jobs to get an idea of what you would like to do long-term. Emphasize the those temp jobs that have a bearing on the job that you are applying for.

How often is good to "check in" with an employment agency?

I registerred with an employment agency. When I was calling regularly, they acted like I was being a "pest". Then when I stopped calling, and then called again recently, they said they hadn't heard from me so they assumed I was not available. So, how often is good to call to check in with them and let them know I am available?

How often is good to "check in" with an employment agency?
I have had the same issue. I would check with them once a week. Once a week is enough for them so you don't sound like a pest. But just enough to stay in touch with them.

Good luck finding a job.
Reply:Once a week. If you don't call, then they won't know you are available. You probably was calling everyday, but you wasn't suppose to.
Reply:Call in about once a week. Monday is good. If you can't call Mondays, try Wednesdays. Don't let them push you off by acting like you're a pest. The only way they get paid is by finding you a job, so if they want to get paid, they better find you a job! Don't relent until they find you something.

It also depends on how badly you need a job. Every day or every other day would work if you really need something.

Good luck!
Reply:I am registered with an employment agency.....Triad Temp. I call her daily, or every other day. They like to know you are interested in getting a job. If I don't call, I email her. What is the meaning of "account for time between employment" ?

I wonder what is the meaning of "account for time between employment" in the job application form?

What is the meaning of "account for time between employment" ?
If you took a while to get a new job they want to know why you did that?

For example, if you left your job in September and did not have another job until November they want to know what you did all that time in between. Did you look for a job in Sept? Did you take time off? Why did you take so long a time off or to find a job?

If you need more help contact me
Reply:That's pretty straightforward. If you mention that you worked for two years, from 2002-2004 at the Jones company, and you worked from 2005-2006 at the Smith company, your prospective employer is going to want to know whast you did from 2004 to 2005. That's accounting for time between employment. if you've done something like go to school, take an apprenticeship or start your own business - anything that shows you have been improving yourself during that year, they will be impressed. if you've been a beach bum for a year, they might not think so highly of you.
Reply:this is the period between 2 jobs

then you get another job in July 2007

The question is asking you to explain: what are you doing between Jan to July 2007?

Reply:The potential employer wants to know what the applicant has been doing between jobs. Were you unemployed? Unemployable? On vacation? In the hospital? Self employed? On vacation?
Reply:It means that they want to know what you were doing between jobs if there was an amount of time. Lets say you had a job and then took a year off t raise your kids or something they want you to tell them that.

Do you still have contact with anyone from your former companies HR department or your former boss? If you do I would suggest writing them an email or calling and just look into if your old position is open or if there are any other positions you could fill.

You could also just send over your resume. If it wasn't too long since you left and the same staff is still in place more then likely you will get noticed and get first consideration for a position. If you have had previous experience with the company and left on good terms its usually pretty easy to get back in and much easier for the company in most cases.
Reply:yes,i would just call or go in,and talk to that person you talked to before you left.i went through the same thing and i got hired back.
Reply:Be upfront and honest with them. Explain why you took the previous job and why you are wanting to go back to work for them.

I have had employees leave me for more money....and some I have hired back.
Reply:Just go back and tell them that you made a mistake. I would do it now before they hire someone to replace you. Good luck.

No employment history in my credit report?

I am a college student working on campus. I file my taxes every year. But my credit report contains no information about my employment history. Does anyone know why that is? How can I make my employment history to appear on my credit report? I have proof of employment and pay stub and direct deposit information. How can I request the credit reporting agencies to list them on my credit report?

No employment history in my credit report?
You can submit a dispute letter to the consumer credit reporting companies (Transunion, Experian, and Equifax) to make a correction to your credit report. You should indicate that after examining your credit report that you have discovered the following errors. My report fails to list all of my employers. Please add the following employer(s): … List the Employer(s) name. I have listed a source below which gives the contact addresses to send the dispute letters. However, TransUnion and Equifax allow this option to be filed online. I have also listed a source which has a template of a dispute letter.

FYI... Lenders often look to an employment history as evidence of stability.
Reply:no
Reply:call them up and tell them. i personally don't tell them as i feel it is none of their business where, when, or how long you worked at a particular place.

Can you claim benefits when registered with an employment agency?

I recently left my job and registered with an employment agency, but I'm wondering if I'll be able to claim benefits for the days/weeks that I'm not actually working. Is this possible?

Can you claim benefits when registered with an employment agency?
You can claim when you are :-

a) not working (and not being paid not to work - so you can't claim during your 'Notice period' even if the Company lets you go early eg. 'Gardening Leave')

b) available for work

Go see the people at the Job Centre
Reply:Yeah you can.

Also did you know that anybody single or not can claim working families tax credit?
Reply:yes you can I know someone that does. Just talk to the jobcentre though to clear things up, and they can help you with finding a job with their job banks too.
Reply:Isn't that the only time you are eligible?
Reply:Are you asking if you can claim unemployment benefits while being registered with an employment agency? If so, then yes, you can file and collect unemployment wages when you do not work. If you do work for the agency you must report how many hours you worked and wages that you earned to unemployment and your benefits will be adjusted to reflect the amount earned.
Reply:it depends on the agency, most don't have benefits

Is it ok to omit some of your employment history, for the sake of your resume being to long?

Lets say the job I'm applying for is sales, and my employment history has alot of sales but two or three construction jobs. Can I leave those out?

Is it ok to omit some of your employment history, for the sake of your resume being to long?
Yes, you can omit any job that is older than 10yrs and also if it does not pertain to what you are currently applying for. Good Luck!!!
Reply:Shoot I only go back 5 years on mine, all others have moved on or no longer have any records of concern.
Reply:Yes. In fact I only list job titles, under which I put skills I gained through that job that will help me in the job I am applying for.
Reply:Yes! Resumes that are too long or contain lots of extraneous information are just a pain in the *ss to read.
Reply:Absolutely. You may also want to check out some different resume formats. For example a functional resume rather than a traditional chronological resume would highlight your skills and experience for the job you're applying for and wouldn't show glaring gaps in your employment history.
Reply:Yes, just list the jobs related to what you are applying for and only up to 10 years' worth of previous employment.

Can an employer legally demand access to a private internet account as an interview employment condition?

My daughter and others were asked to open their private MYSPACE pages as an interview employment condition. The interviewer deleted comments with words he did not deem appropriate and chastised her for some of the content of the private messages sent to her from others. Is this legal?

Can an employer legally demand access to a private internet account as an interview employment condition?
I don't think so... that would be your daughters personal space. I think that you should seek some legal advice about that one.
Reply:Exactly how would they know your daughter had a myspace account ?

It's not like everyone does.

You didn't say what job she was applying for.

You didn't tell us the relevance of myspace to the job she was interviewing for.

If she listed her myspace page as part of her application ( ie: this is what I can do ) then it would be appropiate for them to see her page before hiring her.
Reply:if you signed the contract saying you will let them, yes it is legal.

if not, no
Reply:I wouldn't think so. To me that's like asking to look in their purses. It is private and personal.
Reply:Never heard of such a thing, but a lot of people seem to be using Myspace in the process of getting employment, which would open the door to something like that.
Reply:Generally not. I would NEVER allow anyone access of a demand basis like that. He is messing with your privacy (obviously successfully).

If you allow it then it is legal. YOU gave him access! I would consider it a bluff.

Interviewer for what? I would kick his ars out the door (and not show him anything).
Reply:Personally, I don't understand why anyone would admit to having a myspace account to their boss/teacher.

I have a myspace account, as well as accounts at other "community" websites, but I do not mention my name or any other identifiable information. With millions of accounts, it would take a miracle or a lot of patience for someone to stumble across my picture.

I think it is a VERY good idea for anyone that uses public forums such as yahoo questions, myspace or whatever, to keep them separate from their real life.

As for the legality, you would have to check with a lawyer. If the employer viewed the public pages, then there is nothing illegal or unethical. If they were made to open them via password in which it sounds like they did, there may be reason for a lawsuit if that is the path you wish to take.
Reply:As your question came up when I limited these to Australian questions only, I will assume you live in Australia. If so, this is definitely not allowed as it is against our recent privacy laws.
Reply:I doubt it, ask a lawyer
Reply:This is only acceptable for certain kinds of jobs, for instance in national security, where personal vetting takes priority over privacy. For normal run-of-the-mill jobs it's certainly not legal.
Reply:nope life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. now if the myspace was accessed at work then the boss can fire them. but if it was all done on personal time then he can do nothing and you might want to call the aclu.
Reply:Unless they gave their permission, it sounds illegal to me and they should talk to the HR rep about it.
Reply:Huh?
Reply:There's no way that's legal. It's her private space - hence the name. I'd be calling the employer to complain. She's not going to want to work there anyway, if the interviewer is that much of a power tripper at an interview, imagine what they'd be like to work for!
Reply:Sure. Your daughter didn't have to give the employer access to her MYSPACE page; then again, the employer didn't have to interview her or hire her.
Reply:yes...inappropriate but legal....it is up to your daughter to decide to work elsewhere.

An employer has pretty borad rights in terms of hiring and continued employement in non contract situations...the only thing they can't do is discriminate.
Reply:I'm not aware of any law against it. There is nothing in US federal labor laws that would prevent it.

But I think it is stupid from the employer's perspective. If your daughter has a negative outcome (not getting hired, being disciplined, etc.) the employer is now presumed to know anything that was contained in any of those pages. Then the employer would have the burden of proving that the negative action was not caused by information found there that put your daughter in a protected class. As someone who has sued employers, I can tell you it is hard to do this.

The employer should talk to his or her attorney who will insist that such stupidity stops.
Reply:you bet! it is for public display and more employers are looking at them to determine your credibility.
Reply:It can be legal if the terms of the employment contract say so, and if the employer is subject to goverment or SRO regulations (SEC, MSRB, etc.) with security concerns.
Reply:If the employees want to keep their jobs.
Reply:wow, since when is personal life a factor for employment? i wouldn't work anywhere that did that...

Where can I find a reputable headhunter/employment recruiter?

I'm making a career switch from public school teaching to either private sector or other government positions. I would be willing to utilize a headhunter/employment recruiter (even if I have to pay) as long as I know they are reputable. Anyone know of any good ones? I'm willing to commute to Washington D.C. since I live near a MARC Train. Along with my education degree, I also have a B.A. in fine arts/graphics and an A.S. in commercial design.

Where can I find a reputable headhunter/employment recruiter?
As the person above said, NEVER PAY a headhunter/recruiter. They make their money by charging the company that you are placed at. If you haven't done so already, post your resume on monster.com. I also suggest going to yahoo yellow pages and searching for employment agencies in the city that you want to work in, check out their websites and apply to positions that are of interest to you.
Reply:NEVER PAY a headhunter/recruiter...EVER. They make their money by charging the client company. If any headhunter indicates otherwise...run.

In what states are bartenders required to obtain certification as a condition of employment?

It says on Wikipedia:

"In some states, bartenders are required to obtain certification as a condition of employment".

What states? Is New York one of them?

Thanks very much for your time, and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays! :)

In what states are bartenders required to obtain certification as a condition of employment?
Most states require certification.

Certification usually only means that you have a food handlers certificate (don't sneeze on a plate of food, don't rub food on the floor, sanitary issues, etc...) - not specific to bartending, most wait staff need it.

Merry Christmas %26amp; Happy holidays to you too!
Reply:I know North Dakota requires it.
Reply:I know California is one of those states!

My employment has just been terminated before my 3 month trial period? Where do I stand?

My employment has just been terminated before my 3 month trail was up.

No notice, no holiday pay, only paid up till the date I have worked.

I need to know where I stand and who I can contact to help me?

My employment has just been terminated before my 3 month trial period? Where do I stand?
one can always talk to an employment lawyer if one feels they have been wrongfully terminated

but in general if you where left go during your probationary period, little one can do unless the real reason for letting you go involves a federal or state protected class
Reply:No one owes you a job. Move on, get another one.
Reply:It is called a trial period. That means that you are on trial. You got fired during this period. It means that you were not performing up to your employers expectations. You are entitled to nothing. They do not have to give you notice, holiday pay or anything beyond paying you for the hours actually worked. Next time you get a job work harder.
Reply:You stand outside of the business :) They have the right to terminate you at any time, especially during your trial period. If you are not working out, they are not required to keep you for the entire period. There is no one to contact as you have no course of action against them.
Reply:You were let go before the probationary period ended. Sorry, but the only place you stand is unemployed.
Reply:Uh...you're unemployed. That's why there is a trial period.

Sorry.
Reply:You have no recourse. You are unemployed. Isn't Corporate America great!

Check with the State Employment Office to see if you are eligible for unemployment benefits.
Reply:you can try to collect unemployment if it is available to you and try to find another job. You do not have a case for wrongful termination.
Reply:Unless you signed a contract, you were likely an "at-will" employee, which means the company can hire and fire for any reason or for no reason at all.

However, if they fired you for an improper reason such as discrimination (gender, race, age) or retaliation (for reporting some kind of legal violation by the company to the proper authorities) you may be able to bring a suit against them for unlawful termination.
Reply:Where do you stand? Back where you were before you started the trial period, only with some valuable information if you choose not to ignore it.

Try to figure out why you weren't kept on. Were you on time each and every day, worked hard while there, leave last, avoid gossip with the coworkers. Is your appearance appropriate, were you a hard worker? You know that what you did was not enough, try to be a better employee if you are able to get another job.
Reply:Sorry but your out of luck. If you signed the waiver that they can fire you at anytime during the 90 days nothing can be done. I worked at a new store opening for Bed bath and Beyond. They hired alot of workers just to get the store ready for the grand opening. They fired over half the crew. Some of the people that were fired was over their pay scale. They fired all of the higher paying employees while kept the low paying ones that were not as good of workers. Advice next time someone wants you to sign the waiver know that the job is not a sure bet and keep looking for a better job.

PS I know a best buy who did the same thing fire the higher paying employees and keep the low paying employees.
Reply:If you are in a "right to work" state like California you are up a creek without a paddle or a boat. They can terminate you at any time!
Reply:You stand in the unemployment line.

Like others have already said, most likely you were an at will employee. This simply means a company has a right to fire you at any time for any reason and you have a right to quit at any time for any reason.

Do I have to file taxes if I made little on normal jobs but more on self employment?

I made less than $3,000 on normal jobs last year, but over $4,000 on self employment.

I know that you have to file self employment if its over $400. But does this mean I have to file the $3,000 i made on normal jobs too? (Because I thought you dont have to file taxes if you made less than so much on normal jobs)

Do I have to file taxes if I made little on normal jobs but more on self employment?
Yes, since you are required to file because of the self employment, you have to show the W-2 also.
Reply:I think because all together you made so much, you may have to file for all of your income.

On the self employment, you can write off many things and that will help you not to have to owe allot in taxes possibly.

For example, if you do carpentry work and had to buy the materials, you keep all receipts and add up your out of pocket expense and you deduct it from you taxable income.

Maybe you already know that. Also, depending on how much you made self employed, if that was all you made and didnt make anything with the regular job,you can make up to a certain amount and not have to file. Im not sure what the amount is though.

It can be tricky when you work both ways so I would defiantly talk to an expert. But check around because some places will totally rip you off.

I used to always go to h%26amp;r block until I met someone who does taxes. he is very reputible and does not charge near what h%26amp;r block charged me.In 2006 h%26amp;r charged me almost 300.00 My taxes arent complicated. I worked a regular job and have a couple of children to claim, have w2's to go by and thats it. I had this tax guy do them for me and he charged me 100.00 He keeps eveything right on the computer,he gives me a copy of eveything, very professional.

h%26amp;r people get some type of commision I think.

How can I get no cost help stopping post bankruptcy State and Federal employment tax demands?

We closed a small dollar stor in 2003 and finalized personal bankruptcy in early 2004. We made a lot of mistakes but tried to pay what we understood after we could not afford an accountant. The questions stem from a 2 and and 3rd quarter employment and unemployment taxes. We have records to show we filed and paid during those periods. But IRS says we had a higher payroll. we showed them what we paid employees and and they come up witha new ammount of tax owed each time we talk. State of Michigan showed a zero balence then changed it to $1400 plus 500 penalties

How can I get no cost help stopping post bankruptcy State and Federal employment tax demands?
Contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Ask for an appointment, take in all your backup documents.
Reply:Unless you can get the federal and state tax authorities to agree to your numbers, you're pretty much out of luck. You cannot erase payroll tax obligations through bankruptcy.

How can I advertise employment for Men over 50?

I'm Self-employed working in Columbia SC, my business is growing and I would like to hire a couple men close to my own age to work with me. Problem is I don't know how to word this in the employment classifieds. As I understand EEO laws I don't believe l'm allowed to advertise for employment and limit the applicants to a specific age and gender? Any advice?

How can I advertise employment for Men over 50?
You are correct, it is against the law to advertise and only hire those applicants of a certain age and sex. What you can advertise for the position, and state that you want a specific number of years of experience, that would guide you towards a specific age group. But you can not only interview people or consider people of a certain age or you could find yourself sued for age discrimination and unlawful employment practices.
Reply:How about asking people who has 20+ year working experience in different field or skill. And it depends who starting working, but at least that is a good cut off time.
Reply:You cannot put gender or age specifications in your ad. Technically you can ask for people over 40, but it isn't a good idea (the age discrimination is for people 40 and over). You CAN designate a certain number of years of experience required, which self-selects people.
Reply:Advertise for mature persons, that way you wont get in trouble.Thats how I got my job, they wanted someone that was mature,it has nothing to do with age it has to do with mental status.I started in my late 30's and am now 50.
Reply:Advertise your requirement on free classifieds, relevant forums and social networking websites. Monitor the response you get periodically to find out what works best. From http://ad5.info

Do employers have access to my employment history?

Do employers have access to my employment history?

I kinda quit on pretty bad terms on my last job, and it seems like all the jobs I've applied for have, I've been turned down recently. I'm under 18 and live in Alberta, Canada if that information helps any.

Thanks in advance.

Do employers have access to my employment history?
If you signed a release of information to any prospective employers then yes they can verify dates of employment, job title, job classification, etc. But employers will always do a reference check on any candidates that they may consider for a position. If the reference turns out satisfactory then they may consider and pursue other candidates.
Reply:I am an employer and the answer to your question is no....that doesn't mean I couldn't find that information if I really searched. However by law all your previous employer can tell a potential employer is when you started and when you quit. I don't know if that is the law in Canada, but that is the way it is in the US.

More important, however, is addressing the issue as to why all your jobs have ended with you quitting on bad terms. Obviously, I don't know you, but the common denominator in your previous employments are you. You need to question why your jobs have ended badly and correct the problem. It may be that you have the uncanny ability to choose poor employers, or it could be something you are doing that is causing the issues. Take a good hard look at the issues and make whatever corrections necessary so you do not repeat this again.

Also, because you are under 18, it really is not necessary to show a lengthy employment history when applying for jobs. So, why not start over new and look upon your next employer as your first. If you do not claim previous employment then the employer will have nothing to trace back.

good luck
Reply:Employers can have access to all of your history. aka school attended, grades, employment history, etc..
Reply:Concentrate on what you can do to avoid the places you feel you have no chance of getting a good reference. A propective employer can check your background as far as they want to go back. Credit, criminal, past employers, they can google you to see what your up to on the net if you have a presence. Most employers in the US will not share reasons for termination for fear of liability but will readily share employment dates, postion held, and such. Back to my first sentence: find someone in the past company you can trust and list them as to the contact on your employment application. Any reference you list should already know you listed them. As for the HR department there may be less you can do. Don't go into a new interview and feel inside you cannot get it. It can show.

Should election promises be made into employment contracts?

Election promises should be made into a contract that new Presidents/Prime Ministers have to sign. Voters have the right to sack them if they break the term/s %26amp; condition/s of the contract. If they give voters the right to vote, then voters should have the right to terminate the employment of the president/prime minister.

Should election promises be made into employment contracts?
Actually, they already do have an employment contract. It's known as a term of office. At the end of that term, voters have the right to fire the (choose term of your choice here) if he/she has broken the promise.

A contract is only enforceable if one party chooses to enforce it. If the voters of a district or a country choose to ignore a breech, it makes no difference that the contract is in writing.
Reply:Thats a great idea, yes, YES they should.
Reply:To be honest I don't agree. It's representative democracy. We pick our representatives but not the policies they have to put in place.

If you hire someone to tend your lawn you don't lord over them and tell them how to do everything.

If they screw your lawn up or do something they said they wouldn't, you don't hire them next time.
Reply:How does that work when my state elects members of congress that promised to reduce taxes on yours elects candidates that promised to increase them. It is not possible for BOTH to keep there promises. Presidents CAN'T pass any laws, they can only sign or veto the laws passed by Congress.
Reply:i agree 100 percent... so many presidents would of been sacked.. not only sacked but unable to collect their presidential money they get when no longer president..everything gets taken away.. when we don`t perform our job well we get terminated.. correct? tit for tat..
Reply:Indeed they should!!! A great start to a LONG list of needed changes...

Are employers allowed to give pre-employment nicotine and pregnancy tests along with drug and alcohol tests?

I am an employer. I am implementing a drug and alcohol testing policy similar to CFR 49 for Commercial Drivers License Holders. None of my employees have CDLs nor are they required to have one for my company. I just use CFR 49 rules as model for how I do drug and alcohol testing as well as yearly DOT medical exams. Everything is more uniform that way.

Anyway, if you are planning on answering my question asking why I want to do this, do not bother answering. I am looking for the answer to this question. The question is am I allowed to give pre-employment and random nicotine and pregnancy testing? The reason for the nicotine is because I wish to not employ smokers. In my state, this is legal. For pregnant women, the reason is because the type of business I run, pregnant women cannot work in. Please do not ask why. Just answer my question. Is it ok and/or legal for me to do these tests?

Are employers allowed to give pre-employment nicotine and pregnancy tests along with drug and alcohol tests?
You probably need to ask a lawyer about this.

First, whatever the correct answer is when you get sued for discrimination - and you will - a defense of "they told me it was OK on Yahoo" will get you laughed out of court.

Second, if you insist on being secretive about the reasons you will need the attorney-client privilege to protect you from being required to answer embarrassing questions about your motives.

And third, I hope it costs a bundle to get the advice on how to circumvent laws and basic morality.
Reply:Bottom line is an employer can't discrimnate for certain reasons. Smoking; don't think that is a protected group. Pregnant; not sure its protected, but they would not be allowed to make an employment decision based on this fact alone.

Besides...if you were pregnant why would you be smoking???
Reply:nicotine yes are allowable the railroad has used them for awhile, the pregnancy test is not because that would be discrimination to fullest degree and against the federal mandates set forth by the Dept. of Labor

Also you must go thru set standards of testing as you must use a independant company to administer any such test with the certification to accompany it.

You are treding on very dangerous grounds of liability with your ideas here so i would suggest legal council before you implemented such actions

Do creditors have access to my employment history?

I applied for a loan and I was just wondering if the lender would have access to my employment history?

Do creditors have access to my employment history?
Depends. Mainly they have the history you write down on the application AND any jobs that have become "attached" to your credit report.

A job becomes attached to your credit report if you applied for other credit and listed the job on the application OR if you have had a garnishment.
Reply:They should as they need to judge whether or not you have a stable job and will be able to pay off your loans. Usually you will submit your tax forms from prior years to prove your income.

Real Business Cycle model: Effect of adverse supply side shock on output, employment and real wage?

I know that it depends on the elasticity of the supply curve for labour, and that there will be an adverse effect on output and employment, but im not sure about real wage. Im looking at diagrams of postive technological shocks but I cant figure it out. Any ideas how I can answer this concisely? Or if you know of any good diagrams illustrating this that would be great.

Real Business Cycle model: Effect of adverse supply side shock on output, employment and real wage?
Yeah, you are right regarding employment and real output - they both will fall. I'm quite sure that real wages should fall too because of equilibrium in labor market. there could be arguments regarding "sticky wages" - which will keep wages frozen, but opposite effect will be due to increase in price level.

So I would say change in real wages are really unidentified. All depends on elasticities and size of shifts in AD, AS, labor supply and labor demand - you can't give right answer without empirical data.

Will landlords rent an apartment to an 18 year old without any employment record?

I'm 18 and am hoping to move out on my own within the next few months, but I've never been employed. I work online and earn enough to rent an apartment, but would a landlord rent to me since I don't have proof of employment?

Will landlords rent an apartment to an 18 year old without any employment record?
More then likely no unless you have a big savings account or inheritance to show that you can actually pay for an apartment. Or you can have your parents cosign at some places to get an apartment.
Reply:It depends. A large complex probably wouldn't because they do credit checks and employment verification. They would probably want a co-signer. You'd be better off renting from a landlord with a single unit in a duplexed house or small building. They are generally a bit more flexible %26amp; only want references %26amp; first + last %26amp; security deposit (which if you don't destroy anything will get returned to you w/interest - law in most states). Though landlords with 5 or less units tend to keep a close eye on them, so if you are doing alot of partying or whatever, you will probably hear about it.
Reply:Look for a place that's full of students. Most 'student ghetto' areas have landlords that're used to dealing with young people with few or no references, little or no credit, etc.

Document your on-line earnings well; if you don't get any pay stubs or anything, now's the time to file a tax return -- that'll help with proof of income.

Ask some responsible, older friends if you can use them as references.

Student-y housing is probably the way to go, but if it's in short supply where you live, try getting a roommate. If you can find somebody who's looking to let a bedroom in their apartment, you'll end up with references without needing the usual landlord credit check hassles.

Good luck!
Reply:That might be little tough thing to do without employment record...maybe they ask your parents or guardian to be the co-signer just in case. Then maybe it'll work out.
Reply:if your parents will commit to paying the rent if you dont or if you have enough for a good security deposit
Reply:Only if you can substantiate proof of income (check stubs, bank statements..) your rent can only account for a certain percentage of your income though, if you don't meet that requirement you won't be able to rent.

Your parent/Guardian can co-sign for it though, they will have to show proof of income also.
Reply:It depends on your income and references I know in South Australia they can't descriminate on age if you are over 16
Reply:they'll probibly make a parent co-sign
Reply:I'd ask for a larger deposit or ask you to have someone cosign.

My parents cosigned when I got my first apartment.

How much emphasis does the federal govt put on credit checks regarding employment?

How does bad debt, delinquency and overall balances effect employment chances?

How much emphasis does the federal govt put on credit checks regarding employment?
It depends on whether or not your job requires a clearance or if it has a morality clause. Most employers just do credit checks to see if an employee is responsible or in any trouble. Hope that helps a little.

Legally, how long does a former employer have to return an employment verification request?

I have a gentleman thats waiting to be hired by my company and I requested his employment verification on 2/8 and they keep blowing me off saying they are backed up. Can they keep doing this?

Reply:Legally, they don't have to respond at all. Would a copy of his W-2 from the company make your company happy? HE can request one from the IRS for 2006 or earlier. It will take 5 to 10 days to receive. Of course, I could find copies of MY W-2s for the last 10 year in the file cabinet across the room.
Reply:They don't have to do it at all. Why do you think they do??
Reply:Yes, they can. And when they do, all they will do is verify the dates he worked there, and what his job was.

Why don't you ask this gentleman, " If I were to call our former employee and ask about you, what would they say??""Then you watch his reaction.
Reply:Do you mean you've asked his former employer for a reference and they haven't provided one?

There is no legal obligation for them to give a reference.
Reply:There is no legislation that I am aware of regarding timely responses to employment verification and I handle HR.

Why are you waiting to hire him- just because you are waiting on one verification?

I have those things sent to me all the time and people will wait until I have time to deal with them- it wouldn't take 10 days but that office has work to do as well- they are not there to serve you, hon.
Reply:My understanding is that the person to be hired by a company is waiting for assertion to a new employer that he WAS employed by a particular company. This has nothing to do with a reference that he was good, bad, or otherwise. Your employment jurisdiction would have the final say. In the meantime, you're trying your best.

Where can you get a Employment Certificate when your underage and home schooled?

I'm from CA ,homeschooled, and under 16 so where would you get a employment certificate? just wondering...

Where can you get a Employment Certificate when your underage and home schooled?
Like a workers permit? ... Over here in North Carolina, we go to either the Health Department or Social Services... but I'm sure you could also try the court house.

What exactly is a pre employment check?

I applied to work with a bank in UK and my training was delayed because they have not received the pre-employment info as yet. What is it about?

What exactly is a pre employment check?
It will probably involve criminal records bureau disclosure, which you will have had to complete paper work for, references, health check and possibly a credit rating score.
Reply:pre-employment check means that they will check your criminal record, call your references, and usually, do a drug screening. As long as you don't rob old ladies for fun or smoke crack, you should be fine. lol. Good luck on the job!
Reply:Ah, that's nothing, all that is is, um, I dont' know.
Reply:i think they check your background, do u have any criminal records, stuffs like that
Reply:You have to right the person a personal check made out to them to prove that you are capable of doing banking transactions.

Put the check in a plain envelop marked gift and slip it to them when nobody is watching.
Reply:My company does a background check with both the authorities (state %26amp; local) and former employers. We also check references and do a drug test.

Every company can be different.
Reply:It COULD mean you have commited crimes in the past, and they don't want to hire you.
Reply:It's a background check to make sure you aren't a convicted felon or have other problems of that sort before they entrust you with other people's money....
Reply:Probably references, credit check and police check.

Has anyone taken a free income tax course through and found employment?

I am thinking about taking an income tax course through Jackson Hewitt or H%26amp;R block to become a tax prepare. How many course will I have to take and is it really possible to find employement or will I have to take lots of classes to find employment?

Has anyone taken a free income tax course through and found employment?
I have taken both of their basic courses and found employment. You really only need their basic course to work for them. In some states you must have the course to work anywhere involving tax preparation.
Reply:I took the HR Block course seven years ago and have worked for them ever since (part time during the tax season only). I have taught that same class for them for the last four years and plan to again this fall. I have worked six seasons and taken all of their more advanced classes too and have become an Enrolled Agent (IRS designation after passing 3 IRS tests) which 95% of preparers are not.

Block is a great place to work and a great place to learn.

However, the course is not free. I don't know how much it will be this year but it is usually under $100, and passing it is not a guarantee of employment. But most people that pass it and want to work for Block are hired.

Is there a way to get a copy of your own employment history for the past 10 years?

An application is asking for my employment, education and unemployment history for the past 10 years. I'm in the process of moving and can't find all of my records at the moment - and my memory isn't as sharp as I thought it was.

Is there a way to get a copy of your own employment history for the past 10 years?
You can contact the Social Security office and ask for a employment history from them. They will go all the way back to when you had your first job. They will have employer names and dates. But no address's or phone numbers. You could try asking your family and friends if they remember your past jobs. If you have not had to many they should be able to help.

Good Luck.
Reply:try the social security office
Reply:Just write what you remember.
Reply:Yes ur sharp memory.
Reply:I have been through this myself and unfortunately found that the only way is to research it yourself ! You can telephone the unemployment office and ask for a copy of all dates that you claimed unemployment. You can also contact the tax office and get a list of the records they hold on you ( data protection laws) but these will take 7-14 days

How do I get a record with dates included of my employment history?

I am filling for disability and need specific dates and times of employment

How do I get a record with dates included of my employment history?
Social Security Admin has this info, if you can get them to turn loose for you.
Reply:You can't "find" a list anywhere. You either know it or you don't. No one stores this information for you. You'll have to sit down and think it through.
Reply:The Social Security Admin. should be able to provide you with a work history assuming your employers all paid your social security taxes.

Do I need an employment pass before entering Singapore?

For a secondment from UK to Singapore with all job details confirmed, can I apply my employment pass only upon arrival? OR do I need to have this ready before entering Singapore?

Do I need an employment pass before entering Singapore?
Better get it done before entering at your nearest Embassy.
Reply:You can enter on a social visit pass first and then apply for an employment pass. See below for more:

http://www.entersingapore.info/sginfo/im...
Reply:It's probably best to go straight to the source. Here's the MoM website section regarding work passes. I've found a lot of useful information regarding the procedure/requirements here:

http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/...
Reply:You cannot work without a valid employment pass. It will take 3 - 4 weeks from Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the HR in your company based in Singapore should have everything done ready for you. You should also receive a copy of the in-principle approval letter from MOM in soft copy so that you can show it at customs when you arrive. You will still enter the country on Social Visit Pass, but you will be required to submit your passport and disembarkment card to collect your employment pass.

Would misdemeanor warrant in another state come up in pre-employment background check?

Would a misdemeanor warrant in another state show up on a pre-employment background check?

I have been pulled over for traffic infraction but the police never said anything.

I know I should take care of this, and plan on doing so next time I go back to visit in June, but for now, just wondering.

Would misdemeanor warrant in another state come up in pre-employment background check?
Very likely, if its a decent company that they use to do the background checks. They will find all of the places you have previously lived, and at a minimum, run the police reports for you in those states. I guess if you were there on vacation or something, and they use a less than great background checking company, they may not check all 50 states databases. For a misdemeanor, its not surprising that an out of state officer wouldnt see that.
Reply:You can do a warrant search here: http://www.efindoutthetruth.com/nationwi...
Reply:It depnds on how the company does their background checks. Most check nationwide, so, yes, it would come up. Some only check the local counties or state.

In any event, most misdemeanors cannot be used as a basis to disquality someone for employment (there are exceptions for drug-and alcohol-related misdemeanors.) A traffic infraction should not be enough to disquality you from employment.

Good luck.

Difference between affidavit of employment and letter of recommendation?

I'm being asked to provide an affidavit letter of employment for a national certification application. How much information should be included?

Difference between affidavit of employment and letter of recommendation?
An affidavit of employment is a basic certification that you work(ed) at a particular place. http://www.nh.gov/insurance/producer/Aff...

A letter of recommendation states how and why you would be well-suited to be hired for a certain position. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recommendat...
Reply:What is being asked of you is that you verify your employment. National certification sometimes requires such information or requires industry employment.

You are either one of three things: 1) self employed, 2) working for an employer in the industry for which your are seeking certification, or 3) not employed in the industry for which you are seeking certification.

The affidavit of employment is simply a statement, from your employer, any of the above listed, on the company letterhead, saying you are an employee in good standing with said company. If self employed, send your company letterhead, and have your office mgr, sign it, or sign it yourself.

The Letterhead: name of company, address, and phone number required.

Type the word AFFIDAVIT at top center or top Left of the letter (as a heading) or as the re: skip down a few lines and type:

John Doe is an employee in good standing at this company. He started working here on ---put in the date.

Sincerely

Secretary or Office Mgr or etc.

PS: A letter of recommendation is a letter written by an employer or a person attesting to how great you are, at least to them.

Example of Employer Recommendation: John Doe has worked here for a number of years and I have found him to be honest, reliable, diligent, skill in the art of dealing with people, modest, and an asset to this company.

Example of Personal Refference: I have known John Doe for a number of years. He is a well-mannered, soft-spoken, modest person, who is honest and has a strong current of integrity. He is especially good with people.

As you can see from the above, who ever John Doe is, he is quite a guy.
Reply:Paper on Letterhead with Dates of employment and title. that's all.
Reply:The affadavit of employment is filled out by your place of employment to prove you work where you say you do and have a job there. The letter of recommendation is also provided by your current employer (usually a manager/supervisor) when applying for a job at a different company.

Will u be liable if you dont proceed with your employment contract?

I signed an employment contract which states that should i pre-terminate the contract i will pay the company 50k. My job should start on Jan. 3. What if I will inform the company that I will not continue my job for personal reasons before Jan 3. May i be held liable?

Will u be liable if you dont proceed with your employment contract?
You have signed the contract, so you will be held accountable for it. However, since you have not officially started and the company would have enough time to find a replacement, you may want to enter into negotiations to remove yourself. Again, the company holds all the cards and can almost force you to agree to anything not exceeding the 50K requirement.

Most companies will let you out being as how they do not want to employ someone that does not want to work for them. They will probably let you out if they cannot talk you out of it provided that you do not enter into direct competition with their company by going to work for a rival company.
Reply:if you signed a contract that say you are liable then you are liable

only option is that the contract may not be enforceable but you'd need a lawyer to find out about that
Reply:Technically, you are liable if you signed on the dotted line. However, if you are physically unable to do the job, because of health reasons, then you may have a way out.
Reply:Sure you have signed the contract and if we strictly focus on the contract itself, you will be liable. However, employment contract is generally treated differently because 49 out of 50 states are what we called "At will states." The exception is Montana. That means if you don't want to work for your employer, you can leave your job as you wish. They can fire you also. The policy reason is that employer-employee relationship is very close and if two people can't get along and want out, it is better to let them out of the employment contract than to keep them together in a hostile situation that may result in violence.

Do be careful if you are an independent contractor and the contract you sign isn't a true employment contract, but rather a contract to perform a specific job. For example, you are a carpenter and contracted with a homeowner to renovate his kitchen. In that case, that is not an employment contract and you can't just not show up for the renovation.

Explain y would it be difficult to maintain a low rate of inflation as the economy approaches full employment?

- philips curve AD/AS

- define theory and method used

Explain why a government might find it difficult to maintain a low rate of inflation as the economy approaches full employment?

Explain y would it be difficult to maintain a low rate of inflation as the economy approaches full employment?
Inflation or deflation effects employment, but I've seen little or no reason to think that high employment causes inflation.

Government creating money and spending money causes inflation.Look at LBJ and the 1960s,70s and even into the 80s.

Productivity and free trade keep inflation low.Look at the 1980s,90s and 2000s.

What is involved with employment verification on an FHA loan?

I was prequalified for an FHA loan, at the time I was holding a different postion that was higher paying. Something happened and I am now in a different position at a lower pay rate. My closing is in 2 weeks and the just asked for my HR info for the employment verification. I am wondering if my deal is going to fall through or are they just going to make sure that I still work there

What is involved with employment verification on an FHA loan?
They already verified your income so they just need to make sure your still employed there. Your Good..

How does receiving un-employment work?

I think i have to quit my job...but we don't work for the union. i know people that receive un-employment. how does that work?

How does receiving un-employment work?
That largely depends on what state and county you are in. Check online for your EDD office, see if you can file online. In California you can file a claim online.

You will be asked a series of questions and dates, place of work, why your no longer working. They will send you all the paparwork through the mail, unemployment work search record, what your weekly award will be, a telephone interview date and so forth. Your claim will end exactly a year later from the date you file it. There is a waiting period etc.

I hope this helps
Reply:You can't receive unemployment for quitting your job. You have to be fired or laid off.

Quitting is a voluntary choice made by you to be unemployed. In making that choice, you absolve the company you work for from having to pay you the unemployment out of their unemployment insurance.

You get unemployment from getting laid off or fired. The only way on those is if you are fired for job performance. Then you may not get it, and if you file, your former employer can fight you getting it. If they win, you don't get paid.

I would advise you to either find another job before you quit, or figure something else out, because if you quit, you will be without income.

You do also realize that you only get about 30 - 40 % of your previous income, right? You will not make what you were making while employed. That is how they get people out of the cycle, and back into work. And you can only collect for 26 out of the 52 weeks per year. So you will not be able to just sit on unemployment forever.
Reply:well u have to either be fired ( for a reason other than you doing something to make them fire you, like stealling, horseplay, etc.) or laid off. then you have to go to the unemployment office and fill out an app which list all your jobs from like a year and a half. Don't lie cause they know. OK from that they calculate your wages and btw u have to have good cause to leave your other jobs u listed such as to work a better job. after that they make u wait two weeks to receive a check if you get an approval letter. In the meantime you must fill out the claim cards they send you and send them back(some do it by phone depending on your state) because the checks are a week behind and in case you are denied and appeal you get back pay if u win the case. Hope this helps!
Reply:you "think" you "have" to quit your job? Im confused.
Reply:in order to get unemployment you have to be fired and you have to have worked there a certain amount of time . and you only get so much of the money u were making at work
Reply:look in the phone book under state government. there will be a phone number or address for the office . if you quit you may be pentalized for a period or unable to collect at all. if you are good with employer ask for a layoff
