One month ago I sign up to changes to my contract of employment. Part of the changes was changing the notice period from one month to three months. However, Two weeks ago (and 2 weeks from the time I accepted the contract changes) I was offered another job and resigned. Is there anyway I can revert back to the one month notice period?
Is there a cool off period on accepting changes to your contract of employment?
Once you have signed the new contract you have accepted the changes therein and a new contract is formed. This cannot be altered without the agreement of all parties concerned.
Check your contract to see if it indicates if said changes come into force immediately or after a short period of time.
If you are bound by the new contract and you leave without giving the required notice, you will be in breach of contract and your employer can sue, however, in practice it is unlikely to be financially beneficial for your employer to pursue such an action.
Try talking to your employer, you may find that they will allow you to give notice suitable to both you and them.
Good luck.
Reply:If there are it is specific to the contract and will be included in the text. You have to read you contract of employment again carefully, if it doesnt state there is then it is assumed generally that once you have given your autograph you have accepted the terms and conditions of contractual employment!
Reply:If you are leaving your current job, one month notice is an accepatble level of notice for any employer. They cannot enforce anyone to work 3 months notice. What are they going to do...sue you, i doubt it
Reply:You can tell the employer that you did not completely understand the changes. Go to www.opsi.gov.uk/and Click on to Public Acts 1996-2006 and then Click on Public Acts 1996. Then Click on to Employment Rights Act 1996
