Will a backround check look at previous employment or just criminal charges?
If they look at previous employment will they look at if I am eligible for re-hire? and will they look at why I am not eligible for re-hire?

it depends on the service that is used but most background checks use public records and they check activity on the social security number as well as info concerning your name and known aliases and your current and known previous addresses. this will include convictions, settlements, liens, judgments, workers comp claims, professional licenses etcetera. many will include a credit check and if a more extensive criminal check and finger print check is needed many local and state law enforcement agencies now provide that service for a fee.
background checks are covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act just as if they were a credit report and you have the right to see the report and dispute/have corrected the findings in it.
a reference check is usually done by the employer and it consist of checking work and/or personal references............
and by the way there is NO law limiting what employers may release as long as it is truthful.
the law in every state protects employers who release info unless the information is not truthful and "they know it is not truthful" or "reasonably should have known it is not truthful".
many employers have a POLICY to not release information from personnel files but that is not related to a law that prevents them from doing so.

I am from Pennsylvania (near pittsburgh), It has really changed, everything is dying and up for sale and people are edgy and unhappy. I have been self employed now for 13 years( I went from $40,000 a year gross down to $15-$18,000 I try hard but no more results) and there has been a dramatic change in everything. The winter tears everything apart, My kids are homeschooled now, that helps, my wife has too many health issues to keep employment. I love self employment , it is who i am, i can work employment if i have to, I wish to find a new start a place that we would fit in ,hopefully away from the worst of winter, somewhere safe, opportunity, Please someone recommend the suitable place for us, I am looking for the right environment for self employment ,competitive. I am still young 39 well maybe young...And pa is getting vey expensive for anyone..

Consider the Charlotte NC area -- we do have some cold weather but usually not too much snow (more ice than snow) but in the 8 years we've been here we've only had to use the snow shovel three times. We still have the same snow shovel :)

it just needs a handyman or someone who can afford contract labor. 68,500 but could remodel,repair and resale 80-90. not much income opportunity in town but larger metro areas very close either direction. also a new industry has currently came to morrilton, gas drilling, mineral rights, so property values are predicted to go up in 2 yrs. i want to sale and BUY before this occurs. home not on market yet. town is developing but slowly, conway and russellville are exploding, morrilton sits mid-way both. and we have wet county, surrounding counties are dry except for supperclubs and couple resturants. shop downtown stores or walmart supercenter. conway has stripmall, russellvill, lots of shopping variety, littlerock has 2or3 complex malls, less than an hour from city living. my husband is from newhampshire, he's lived here about 20 yrs. home appraised at 60,000 10 yrs ago. needs tlc after renters, but the potential is great for a nice strong well built home. i still love it, i lived here before the renters, then divorce, my mom bought it,remarry, im buying it back from her been here 3 yrs, but our kids are about grown 11-21, and we want to get smaller place out of town. and as said before we cant afford nor have time for repair and remodel so its been lft undone

Is there a cool off period on accepting changes to your contract of employment?
One month ago I sign up to changes to my contract of employment. Part of the changes was changing the notice period from one month to three months. However, Two weeks ago (and 2 weeks from the time I accepted the contract changes) I was offered another job and resigned. Is there anyway I can revert back to the one month notice period?

Once you have signed the new contract you have accepted the changes therein and a new contract is formed. This cannot be altered without the agreement of all parties concerned.
Check your contract to see if it indicates if said changes come into force immediately or after a short period of time.
If you are bound by the new contract and you leave without giving the required notice, you will be in breach of contract and your employer can sue, however, in practice it is unlikely to be financially beneficial for your employer to pursue such an action.
Try talking to your employer, you may find that they will allow you to give notice suitable to both you and them.

Hi, I'm wondering (because I have no idea) how hard it is to find average employment (pizza guy, supermarket worker, something around $15 an hour over 18) in Australia without completion or failure of vce.

Usually students are on visa that has expiry date on it, so unless the employer is willing to apply for the student/worker to stay on work visa the sudent has to leave the country as soon as his/her visa expires
