Would like to move to the UK from the United States. How can I find employment first?

Our family would like to move to the UK soon from the United States. Are there any recommendations on where to find employment in the UK while still living in the States? I understand you can only immigrate while you have a work Visa. You cannot just show up and then start job hunting. So how do you get a job in the UK before you move? Thanks!!

The UK economy is doing pretty well at the moment, if you are really good at anything you can get a good job, but costs are high and wages lower than in the states. The social wage, i.e. Health care education is good in the UK but only for UK/EU citizens - you need to check this out as free health and education is one of the reasons wages are lower. London and the South East economically are completely different from the rest of England - more on a par with Switzerland financially. Niche jobs in the health service are in short supply, skilled tradesmen earn, Website developers with Flash Pro skills can name their price. In other words it's a sophisticated market. Serving coffee is dominated by the Polish, lower level service jobs are definitely to be avoided.

You could always sign up to a University course here and work part-time as a way in.

Don't listen to the moaners, I live near Manchester and its great and I've never even seen or heard a gun. Never had any real trouble in my life.

Reply:Well I would not object at all to you coming to the UK to work! But it won't be easy.

It would be a question of finding a skill or trade that is in short supply in the UK. Many British people long to become skilled or get a trade and can't because there is no Government funding to help them do this. So when the Government say there are "skill shortages" what it means is that there are people willing to train up to do these jobs but they can't be bothered to help them because its cheaper to import labour than train it up from within.

The UK job market is currently flooded with Eastern European migrants and they are driving down wages and making it harder for even some skilled UK workers. however I do beleive there are still areas where the Government claims there are "skill shortages" and there are always places for highly educated academics, doctors etc.

The first question would be what do you do, what experience you have and then researching jobs and companies in that area. Good luck!

Reply:You don't!
Reply:Oh God!! I´m actually not sure - I´m just embarassed by how ignorant some people make the British sound - please don´t listen to the idiots that make out as if we´re full - they are so short-sighted i doubt they´ve been out of a ten metre diameter in their lives!! Sounds like some people have given sensible answers so listen to them - although I would really suggest seaking advice from an immigration lawyer - they will have far better advice. Good luck!!
Reply:Don't. We're full to bursting point.
Reply:You seriously want to live here in England i wouldn't bother with the way the country is at the moment all the students and nurses are going to you this is the last place i would choose to live if i had a choice
Reply:Not really the place to immigrate to really - all the jobs are being done by eastern european peasants
Reply:you could try the internet and sites such as www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk this will not only give you oppertunitys to look for jobs but also you can email them questions about what your plans are and where you want to live and they will advise you on where you stand.. but if you want somewhere nice to live you should choose scotland ;0) thats where im from.. Aberdeen, nice friendly city and as far as wages go it is sitting second in the league only being beaten by london.. but london smells.. :0)

Good luck
