What employment is available to a person after being jailed twice for DUI?

Mother in her 40's is ready to seek new answers in her life. Would like to work with seniors.

What employment is available to a person after being jailed twice for DUI?
Some companies will hire you, however your arrest will show up on background check. In most cases I usually tell people not to be honest with background then get an expungement, but most DUI's are not expungeable. A lot of the senior centers need help and they may take you on anyway. If you have been going to AA meetings regularly then talk to one of the counselors. They may be able to put a good word in for you. Good luck on changing your life.
Reply:A DUI is not viewed by most employers as an obstacle to employments, especially if you can demonstrate rehabilitation, membership in AA, etc., as well as good references.

A lot of organizations that work with seniors are desperate for help. There are always opportunities to volunteer, and this might be a good path to employment.

Another trick would be to volunteer to work for free for a week, so the employer can see how well you do, without risk.
Reply:first of all congrats on your decision to seek a new way of life. most employers ask about your criminal background. technically speaking, you are a criminal because you knowing broke the law, however, that doesnt make you a bad person. you just made bad choices. I dont think employers frown on DUI convictions. they'd be more interested in if you were a thief or something more serious. So I'd say the world is your oyster. you can do anything. Why not become a public speaker and talk about your problems with drinking. lecuture at schools. work for AA. Instead of putting your problem in the past and trying not to think about it, bring out into the open and use it to enpower you.
Reply:I work for a criminal defense attorney, so I've seen it all. Most of the time with DUI, I don't see problems with people and employment. I've seen many white collar workers with 5 or 6 DUI's on their record. In my state a 4th within 10 years is a felony. After 10 years, the clock starts over again. However, the evidence is still in your criminal history and driving record. Take nursing assistant and home health care classes, maybe a geriatric psych. class. Get registered as a nursing assistant if you're worried about it. I don't see a problem though. I've been reading from some people that even one DUI will keep you from taking certification and board testing. I have not found that to be true in my state. In fact, even high security airport employment only has a 7 year lookback period, unless it's a felony of a serious nature. If you are rehabed from alcohol, and it has been some years, they don't consider it a serious charge which would ban you from any kind of employment at the airport.
Reply:I wouldn't be looking for work as a delivery driver, but home care for seniors is certainly a good choice, it doesn't pay really well but there is never any problem finding a job. Look for home care aide jobs.
